BLACK METAL SR500, LOWERED and SLIM

It used to be a slightly modified SR-500 from 1981. Four years ago I purchased it from my Rumble mate Joop Verdenius. It had really low mileage. The original speedometer indicated 13000 km. Two years ago I began the project by stripping it down to the last bolt. 

I started addressing the engine. I tested it extensively and found that the engine was in perfect shape and needed no overhauling. The outside was degreased and freshly coated, with the edges of cooling-fins bared for good looks.

The new wheels were completely rebuilt with stainless steel spokes and new rims, 16 inches in the back and 18 inches in the front.

The rear wheel has been fitted with the fattest and coolest tire (5.00 x 16) that would fit the swingarm. They both sport the iconic Firestone thread.

Both wheels have drum brakes, with the front hub being the beautiful and highly sought after SR500 20th anniversary-edition.

The rear section of the frame is seriously shortened. A new aluminum fender with a smal taillight completes the rear. The frame has the signal lights worked into it. All this took a lot of custom metal work. The front fork was lowered and the rear fitted with short shocks. The lowrider-stance and look are very successfully achieved this way. It looks killer.

The XT-500 aluminum tank has been fitted to the bike. In our opinion, one of the best-shaped tanks around. 

The leather solo seat has been nicely integrated into the bike with a leather strap across the tank. 

The side covers are custom made for a narrow and sleek look. Behind these covers you’ll find the electrical components among which a 12v battery, an electronic ignition and the state of the art Motogadgets M-unit.

The result is an ultra-low slim-fitted SR500. I am really happy with the looks.
