Some grungy cop (Ernest Borgnine) is out for the blood of a truck driver (Kris Kristofferson). A bunch of trucker friends are fed up with the antics of the cop, and come for help.
The film is made in similar style as Smokey and The Bandit, and for the same audience. Which was the mid-western drive-in type. Convoy has a lot more class.
Though in his lesser years – plagued by alcoholism and drug addiction – Peckinpah manages to infuse depth in characters, mis en scene, visual texture and vision in general in a film that thematically shouldn’t be that interesting.
