Mickey Rourke is Motorcycle Boy. He is too smart for his world, an ace-in-everything; pool player, fist-fighter, knows his classics in literature and has a way with motorcycles. Matt Dillon portrays Rusty James, it’s the younger brother, lot of bragging and bravado, but with a golden heart.
It is a very moody beautiful film. It is about gangs, fighting, motorcycles, but also about not fitting in the world, feeling alienated from it. Being a leader with nowhere to go. Being miscast in a play, stuff like that. Existentialist stuff.. You wanted to be Motorcycle Boy…
It is shot in gorgeous black and white. Stephen H. Burum is responsible for the great photography.
Based on the book by S.E Hinton, as was the film The Outsiders, that was shot alongside Rumble Fish.
